CGEs up to Group C can draw salary advance Rs 10,000 in cash

The Centre has decided to permit central government employees up to Group C categories to withdraw Rs 10,000 in cash against their November salary. This will be adjusted against their November salaries.

The Confederation of Central Government employees and Workers had requested the Controller General of Accounts, Ministry of finance to take necessary action to pay November Month’s Salary by cash. The decision also comes when the government has discontinued interest free advances, including salary advance on October 7 in pursuance of recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.

Since then a lot of representations have come to Prime Minister and Finance Minister from central government employees unions that the lower paid employees have to stand in queue in the banks to withdraw their salary in parts which ultimately amounts to spending the time they would use in their offices to serve the public.

The government have also permitted families with weddings to withdraw Rs 2.5 lakh. They will have to sign a self-declaration document saying the money was drawn against only one account – father, mother, groom or bride. Also the farmers can draw Rs 25,000 a week in cash from bank accounts in their names that are compliant with personal data declaration norms – a move meant to ensure that the demonitisation move doesn’t hurt the winter rabi crop and farmers have enough money to buy seeds, fertilizers and produce.

But from Friday, the limit of the one-time exchange of the now-scrapped Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes is brought down to Rs 2,000 against the earlier limit of Rs 4,500. The move is aimed at decongesting the snaking queues outside banks and ATMs across India following last week’s withdrawal of banknotes.
